Jamie Murray's quest for a second grand slam title is alive and kicking after a nail-biting quarter-final win last night put the Scot just one victory away from successive men’s doubles final appearances.
Murray, runner-up at Wimbledon this summer and was watched by Davis Cup captain Leon Smith and mother Judy here, recovered well from an inauspicious start against the No.4 seeds Marcin Matkowski of Poland and the Serbian veteran Nenad Zimonjic.
Murray and his Australian partner John Peers responded resolutely to dropping the opening set to force their way back in the second. That ensured a nervy decider which was settled when they edged the tie-break for a 3-6 6-3 7-6 win.
“I think Jamie has looked really good all year. He looks so sharp, he's returning better than ever, his serve has definitely improved as well, " said Smith who is likely to pair the Murray brothers together for the Davis Cup semi-final against Australia in Glasgow.
