LEON Smith has thrown a Davis Cup curve ball by including Dan Evans, the world No 300, in his team for the semi-final tie against Australia in Glasgow.

The 25-year-old British No 8 has been selected ahead of James Ward and Kyle Edmund to play the second singles match on Friday.

Despite a minor worry over illness after he missed the official dinner on Thursday night, Andy Murray will lead the hosts, with captain Leon Smith naming Jamie Murray and Dom Inglot for Saturday's doubles as Britain attempt to reach their first Davis Cup final since 1978.

Australia have named Bernard Tomic and Thanasi Kokkinakis in their singles line-up, with former world number one Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Groth in the doubles. Evans upset Tomic at the 2013 US Open in their only previous career meeting but the Australian No 1 reached a career-high world ranking of 23 this week.

The draw confirmed that Murray will face his friend Thanasi Kokkinakis for the first time first up on Friday, prior to Evans tackling Tomic.
