British number three Naomi Broady beaten in San Antonio
British number three Naomi Broady has bowed out of the San Antonio Open at the first-round stage after a straight sets defeat to Anna-Lena Friedsam.
The German was too strong for the 26-year-old Brit, dropping just five games in a 6-2 6-3 victory which took just under an hour.
Top seed Daria Gavrilova advanced to the next stage with a 7-6 (8/6) 6-1 win over Olga Govortsova while Kirsten Flipkens beat Mariana Duque-Marino 6-3 7-6 (7/4).
America's Laura Davis enjoyed an impressive 2-6 6-1 6-3 win over world number 47 Yanina Wickmayer while Alsion Riske was a 7-5 4-6 6-4 victor over Laura Siegemund.
