Heather Watson suffered an early exit at the Katowice Open as she was beaten by world number 88 Kristyna Pliskova in three sets.

The British number two was beaten 6-2 3-6 6-4 in just under two hours as she fell at the first hurdle in Poland.

Watson, ranked 55, failed to take any of her four break points in the first set while Pliskova took both of hers, but Watson responded with the only break of the second to force a decider.

The Czech broke twice early in the third to go 3-0 up, and despite Watson gaining one break back and having break points for another, the Brit eventually came up short.
