Baghdatis targets SW19 despite injury

Marcos Baghdatis does not expect to miss Wimbledon despite suffering a shoulder injury just 16 minutes into his Queen's Club Aegon Championships match with Stan Wawrinka.

The 28-year-old former Australian Open finalist, who was yesterday handed a wildcard for Wimbledon, was forced to withdraw from his second-round match, but is hopeful he will be fit in less than a week.

"It's disappointing, but hopefully it will three or four days. I should be fine for Wimbledon." he said.

Baghdatis is among a cast of wildcard entries, with British players Dan Evans, James Ward and Dan Cox also included on the list.

Promising British teenager Kyle Edmund receives a wild card entry for the second year running, despite being ranked outside the top 250 players in the world. The policy of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is to propose British players ranked 250 or higher in the world but both Cypriot Baghdatis and 19-year-old Edmund are exceptions. His compatriot Dan Smethurst squeezes in by virtue of being ranked 243rd in the world, with two further wild card places yet to be confirmed for the men's singles.

British trio Naomi Broady, Tara Moore and Samantha Murray have each been afforded entries into the ladies' singles draw, with Czech player Kristyna Pliskova also on the list. There are four further women's singles wildcards yet to be confirmed.

British pair Heather Watson and Johanna Konta are direct entries as a result of their rankings.
