NICK KYRGIOS, one of the emerging forces in men's tennis, moved ominously into the last 16 of Wimbledon with a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory against Milos Raonic of Canada.

The volatile, watchable 19-year-old from Canberra, who has had run-ins with umpires in each of his previous two rounds, was on noticeably better behaviour against Raonic on Centre Court and said afterwards that he was playing better than last year and didn't fear anyone. He now faces Richard Gasquet, after the Frenchman took care of Grigor Dimitrov - another on of last year's breakout SW19 stars - on Court No 1.

"I served really, really well and my game was very solid," said Kyrgios. "I don't fear anyone but I feel I am playing better tennis than last year, moving better and making more balls."

Also looking good at SW19 was French Open winner Stan Wawrinka. The Swiss might not regard himself as one of the big four but he certainly looked like it as he effortlessly came past Fernando Verdasco by a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 scoreline in less than two hours. Belgium's David Goffin was an impressive winner against veteran Marcos Baghdatis, while in the women's competition Coco Vanderweghe surprised the seeded Australian Sam Stosur.

There was disappointment in the doubles for Bathgate's Colin Fleming and his veteran American partner, who crashed out to last year's winners Jack Sock and Vasek Pospisil. Playing with a broken finger, the American and his Canadian partner Pospisil - who takes on Britain's James Ward in the singles- ran out 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (4) winners against the Scot and his American partner.
