Federer crashes out to leave Murray facing Berdych

Andy Murray will face Tomas Berdych, and not Roger Federer, in Saturday's US Open semi-final after the giant World No 7 from the Czech Republic stunned the World No 1 under the lights here at the Arthur Ashe arena.

The Czech player, in his first US Open night match, took just two hours and 42 minutes to deprive Federer of his ninth successive Flushing Meadows semi-final appearance.

Murray cautioned against taking Berdych lightly. As well he might, considering the powerful Czech has a 4-2 advantage in the head-to-head record, and beat him in Monte Carlo this season.
