Niels Desein, the 27-year-old world No.195, lifted the ATP Challenger men's singles title in Glasgow, outlasting his higher-ranked countryman Ruben Bemelmans in an epic all Belgian final that lasted two and a half hours.

The lower ranked Desein took the opener on the tiebreak, 7-4, before 164-ranked Bemelmans levelled things up in the second, winning 6-2. Bemelmans (27), then served for the match at 5-4 in the decider only for Desein to break back immediately. Both players held serve once more and in the tiebreak, it was Desein who again prevailed 7 points to 4.

The women's title went to Czechoslovakia's Kristyna Pliskova, the second seed, whose game was just too strong for Romania's Ana Bogdan, seeded seven, the 22-year-old winning comfortably 6-2, 6-2.
