Heather Watson, the 20-year-old from Guernsey, had started the day with hopes of becoming the first British entrant in the ladies' singles to reach the fourth round since Sam Smith in 1998, but instead it took a late rally simply for her to get herself on the scoreboard during her 6-0, 6-2 defeat by the impressive No.3 seed, Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.
