Following on from the elder diarist's asphalt adventure, there was further chaos yesterday at Herald HQ.

Even by the spartan standards of our usual accommodation, it was a new first for the younger diarist to wake up to find there was no running water available. It made a change to be desperately hoping for showers at Wimbledon.

Tam from Motherwell has been back in touch with a few late entries in our tennis players/film names competition. Bjorn On The Fourth of July. Jack Kramer versus Kramer. Who's afraid of Virginia Wade? Nadal M for Murder. Tsonga! Tsonga! Tsonga! Now seems as good a time as any to issue a desperate plea to keep them coming.At this point in the tournament, most of the top players like to demoralise – sorry, inspire – the next generation by hitting with all the best junior players. Welsh teenager Evan Hoyt practised with Rafael Nadal prior to last year's final, and yesterday it was England's Kyle Edmund's turn to rally with Novak Djokovic. This can be a great chance for youngsters to make a name for themselves, but it doesn't always work out that way. US miracle man Brian Baker, for instance, practised against a couple of American youngsters last week. "On the middle Sunday I believe it was Noah Rubin," he said. "And today, I'm not sure I can pronounce his last name, but it was Ty, and then a long last name." Musical royalty in the royal box, where Elaine Page and Cliff Richard take up their seats. The only reason they are allowed in there is because there is a roof these days.Andy Murray's Wimbledon campaign is starting to take off, but he still isn't everyone's cup of tea. When the Scot dropped his serve in the second set on Centre Court on Wednesday, to leave his hopes of the title hanging by a thread, one David Ferrer fan, who certainly didn't appear to be Spanish, shouted: "Last call for easyJet flight to Glasgow." After trying and failing to locate the source of this unfortunate PA announcement, the diarists note cheerily that despite this character's entreaties, said flight remains grounded, with no imminent departure time scheduled. It is not the first easyJet flight to Glasgow to suffer that fate.
