A graduate of Scotland's oldest university who formed a classical music quartet has been nominated for a prestigious award.

Jules Knight - known as Julian Kaye during his student days at St Andrews - graduated in 2005 with an MA in art history and, two years later, formed the group Blake.

The band's self-titled debut album went straight to No 1 in the UK Classical Album chart and achieved gold status.

The band, who were invited to sing at Shirley Bassey's 70th birthday party, have been nominated for Album Of The Year at this year's Classical Brits.

"I feel very privileged to have been to St Andrews and it is true to say those were the best years of my life," said the artist, who was born in Sussex.

"I would love to win this award as a thank you to the university and town for putting up with me for four years."
