Artur Boruc is to undergo a knee operation on Monday which could rule him out of the remainder of Celtic's Champions League campaign.
According to a BBC report, the Polish goalkeeper will play against Motherwell tomorrow before going into hospital. He could require up to a month to recover, which means he would miss the remaining Group E matches against Aalborg on 25 November and Villarreal on 10 December.
To qualify for the last 16, Celtic need to win both games - the tie against Villarreal by two clear goals - and hope Manchester United can also defeat the Danes and Spaniards.
It will be the second time Boruc has undergone knee surgery, the last occasion being in December 2007 when he was out for three weeks.
His deputy, Mark Brown, is likely to step in to add to his tally of 10 appearances since arriving from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in January 2007. Brown is no stranger to the Champions League, having played in last season's qualifier against Spartak Moscow in the Russian capital.
Should Boruc need a month to recover, he will also miss the Clydesdale Bank Premier League matches against Kilmarnock, Hamilton Academical, St Mirren, Inverness Caley Thistle and Hibernian.
