A four-figure sum was stolen from a restaurant on the same night a trainee manageress was murdered.
Last Thursday night's takings were missing from Di Maggio's in Glasgow's west end suggesting robbery could be a possible motive for the killing, detectives said yesterday.
The details were revealed as the Greek family of Eleni Pachou, 25, pleaded for help in catching her killer.
Her brother Spiros, 27, said: "My family appeals for any witnesses to come forward and help the authorities do their work. All we ask is to mourn, nothing more."
Meanwhile, the detective who headed the investigation into the death of Falkirk teenager Vicky Hamilton, has been drafted in to advise the Moira Jones murder case. Detective Chief Superintendent Iain Livingstone, head of CID at Lothian and Borders Police, will help in the hunt for the killer of the Glasgow sales consultant whose battered body was found in Queen's Park last Thursday.
Last night police stopped and interviewed motorists and pedestrians in the area exactly a week after the attack.
Both murder scenes remained taped off yesterday as forensic officers continued their work. Incident units have been set up at both locations in the city. Police are not linking the killings.
