A man was jailed for nine months yesterday for attacking a television talk show participant with a razor blade.
John Dobson, who featured in ITV's Jeremy Kyle show last year, was slashed in the arm and head after being recognised in the street.
Ian Glen, 22, pled guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to assaulting and injuring Mr Dobson.
The court was told Glen's stepbrother had made a comment to Mr Dobson after recognising him from the television show.
A fight broke out and Glen pulled out a razor blade and slashed Mr Dobson before punching him in the head and body.
The incident took place in Beechgrove Road in the Mayfield area of Edinburgh on September 19 last year.
Mr Dobson had been standing with a group of friends when Glen appeared with his step-brother and others.
Fiscal depute John Kirk said: "He had appeared on the Jeremy Kyle show and it was that element of the celebrity that began the comments.
"There was then an argument between the two that extended into threats and dog leads were brandished and a struggle commenced.
"During the course of the struggle Glen produced a razor blade and struck out at Mr Dobson."
The prosecutor said Mr Dobson had then walked off but Glen had followed him, punching him in the head, causing him to fall.
Mr Kirk said several children had been nearby and had seen the assault.
Glen, a prisoner in Edinburgh, was arrested on September 22 and has been in custody since.
Solicitor Graeme Runcie, defending, said Glen had never met Mr Dobson until his step-brother pointed him out and made a comment about it.
He said both groups had been drinking before the incident.
"He should have walked away. He didn't," said Mr Runcie.
Sheriff James Scott said: "I am satisfied that no sentence other than a custodial sentence is appropriate in this case given the gravity of this crime."
