William Chambers In December, the Glasgow-based milliner won the People's prize in the Creative 30, a series of awards designed to find 30 of the nation's best young artists, musicians, designers, dancers and illustrators.
Birds and architecture are two subjects Chambers cites as his inspiration. He mixes traditional materials such as felt with contemporary materials like plastic and metallic leather. He gained a first-class honours degree in textile design at the Scottish College of Textiles in 2002 and set up William Chambers Millinery in 2007. He has designed for singer Roisin Murphy. Rabii Denim Cult jeans label Rabii Denim is based in Glasgow and features the work of designer Robert Watson. The bespoke denim designer specialises in perfectly tailored casual wear and individually designed denims for men, usually priced from £200 a pair.
Watson is one of only a handful of designers in Europe producing bespoke jeans. Rose Fleck Seamstress Rose Fleck has a flair for retro styles and creates pieces and wedding dresses from old Vogue patterns.
While still a student at Cardonald College in Glasgow, Fleck won a gold medal in the Fashion Design category of the Skills Challenge awards in 2004. The event, organised by the Further Education Skills Competition Council, is a platform for emerging talent. Florence To Women's clothing designer Florence To studied fashion design at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh before enrolling at Glasgow School of Art. Her clothing designs are influenced by her love of sculpture and she has incorporated unusual items into her chunky accessories, including a necklace made with curtain hooks. Her designs were among the highlights of the annual degree show at Glasgow School of Art in 2007. Helen Finlayson Originally from Fort William, Helen also studied at Heriot-Watt School of Textiles and Design. After graduating in June 2008, Helen approached Che Camille with a portfolio of work under the label of NELFIN.
Her garments offer a modern take on traditional Scottish fabrics. She has also been selected by Harris Tweed Hebrides for collaboration showcase in 2009. Claire Hamilton After starting her studies at Cardonald College, Claire gained a first class honours degree at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her first bespoke collection is inspired by fairy-tale magic.
