While most of corporate Britain is feeling the impact of the recession, Inchinnan, Renfrewshire-based Total Repair Solutions saw profits increase more than three-fold last year and is predicting another profit boost in the current financial year.

The UK arm of mobile phone entrepreneur Richard Emanuel's business empire reported a pre-tax profit of £539,282 for the year to March 2009, up from £117,515 in 2008, according to accounts obtained from Companies House.

The directors' report said the company had boosted business volumes and margins within its core business of repair and returns management for mobile phones while expanding into related areas. Turnover at the company was up almost 23% at £22.5m.

The directors said: "Budget projections illustrate that continued improvement will be made in profitability over the coming 12 months. Although general economic conditions are challenging, the company is well positioned to work with customers to deliver efficient and cost-effective solutions in all aspects of mobile phone repair management as well as extending its expertise further in similar electronic repair markets."

The company expanded its contact centre and has developed repair management software for use by other companies. TRS employed an average of 485 people over the period, according to the accounts. This was up on 425 the year before.

The company paid no dividend over the financial year. But documents obtained from Companies House show that it paid its immediate parent company a dividend of £953,463 at the beginning of July in the form of an in specie transfer of its headquarters in Inchinnan business park.

No-one from TRS was available for comment.
