A Scots lingerie firm has signed up a model recently criticised by the industry as "too fat", it was announced yesterday.
Designer brand Ultimo has appointed ex-Wonderbra model Katie Green, who is a size 30F. Ms Green quit her job with Wonderbra after reportedly being told to lose weight. She was originally hired for the firm's "real woman" campaign, featuring a more natural female body shape. Ms Green will now join Ultimo as one of the faces of the D-G Cup range.
Creator of Ultimo, Michelle Mone, of Glasgow, said: "I was appalled to hear that Katie had been told that she was too fat' to model lingerie. She has an incredible shape and represents real women throughout the UK. We're delighted to have her on board; I'm sure she'll be a huge success and a wonderful ambassador for Ultimo."
The entrepreneur added: "By signing Katie, it proves that models don't have to be a size zero to look fabulous or to have a successful modeling career. It's also a bold message to all those big-name brands out there that discriminate against curvy girls. Unlike a lot of bra firms, Ultimo support and celebrate real women - who I'm positive will be green with envy when they see the new pictures of Katie. Her figure is beautiful and she looks so sexy in the latest designs." Ms Green, who will shoot her first Ultimo campaign this month, will join Spice Girl Mel B, the official face and body of Ultimo, and Melinda Messenger, the face of Ultimo D-G Cup.
