David Beckham last night signalled that his footballing future lay with AC Milan. The England international, speaking after playing in the 2-2 draw against Rangers, joined the Italian club on loan from LA Galaxy but wants to make the move permanent.
Beckham, who moved to America from Real Madrid, said: "I have made both clubs clear that my intention is to stay here. It is now out of my hands. I respect Galaxy but I have expressed a desire to stay at Milan. I hope the clubs can come to an agreement."
Beckham, who was substituted after 45 minutes last night, admitted he was not yet fully match fit but is revelling in playing with the Serie A club. "I expected to enjoy it in Milan but it has been even better than I thought it would be."
Asked if he could finish his career with Milan, Beckham said: "Possibly."
Leonardo, the technical director of Milan, is also keen to conclude a deal to keep the Englishman at the San Siro. He admitted that the club wanted "to do something more" than the loan deal. "He gives us something different," said the Brazilian of the English captain. "I hope we can come to an agreement with Galaxy,"
he added. "We have to respect Galaxy and see what is possible. But we are really happy with him."
Sasa Papac, meanwhile, praised John Fleck as the 17-year-old turned in an impressive 45 minutes against Milan. The Bosnian, who scored the equaliser, said: "He is a great player.
I have not seen a young player quite like Flecky with his energy. He has a great future."
He added that the display against Milan last night showed there was still life in the title race. "Nobody left in the transfer window and we have a good team. We can take the SPL title this year," he said.
