The Scotland midfielder has been out of action since injuring himself in pre-season.
Smith is preparing his squad for the Co-operative Insurance Cup Quarter Final tie with Hamilton at Ibrox on Tuesday, and although Ferguson won't make the game, Smith is confident he'll be back in first-team action within a couple of weeks.
