James Clements, the schoolboy son of broadcaster Kirsty Wark, will launch his career as a catwalk model for Harris Tweed at a charity fashion show to be held next month in Glasgow.
The 15-year-old pupil at Hyndland Secondary, will showcase zip-up turtleneck jackets and wide-legged hipster trousers, complete with frayed hems and industrial buckles, made from tweed supplied by the Carloway mill on Lewis.
It is one of eight designs by the Scots-American designer Lusmila McColl, whose appearance at the Glasgow event, in aid of Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre, is sponsored by Harris Tweed Textiles of Manhattan in a high-profile attempt to underpin the famous fabric's fashion potential.
James said: "There's a respect for Harris Tweed among kids of my generation. It's definitely got the potential to become a really cutting-edge brand like Paul Smith or Diesel - it just needs really good designers."
The budding entrepreneur is no stranger to showbusiness. With his business partner and DJ Stuart Dale, he founded the Glasgow-based events company Presentable Productions last November, and organises under-18s clubs, private house parties, dinners, and receptions.
"I've been organising events for years, but I finally bought a business plan from the internet at £30, and we've been busy ever since," he said yesterday.
Stalking the catwalk might well become an addition to his already bulging business portfolio - if he pulls it off.
"I've been practising my swagger in front of the bathroom mirror, and experimenting with different facial expressions," he said. "I'm really petrified."
