WHAT started out in life as the 1942 musical Holiday Inn was reinvented by Michael Curtiz in glorious style as this 1954 charmer.

Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby are the rich and famous hoofers and singers who discover their old general from wartime, now the owner of a Vermont hotel, is battling against bankruptcy. With nothing else to do but put the show on right there, Kaye and Crosby, more than ably assisted by Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen - never were there such devoted sisters - do what they do best. Irving Berlin's classic songs, including the famous title track, are enough to melt even the iciest of bah-humbug hearts.

On general release. Glasgow Film Theatre, Filmhouse, Edinburgh, Dec 12-Christmas Eve; DCA, Dundee, Dec 19-Christmas Eve; Winterfest, George Square, Glasgow, Christmas Eve, 6.30pm.
