Apprentice star searches for the most entrepreneurial Scots

Successful business woman and Apprentice star Ruth Badger today launched the 50:50 Challenge, a campaign by Scottish Huntington’s Association to find Scotland’s most entrepreneurial business, school and community group.

Ruth Badger is calling on Scottish entrepreneurs, primary and secondary schools and local clubs to go head to head and raise as much money as possible for charity in 50 hours – starting with just £5.

Entrepreneurial Scots can see if they have what is takes to reach the finals – an Apprentice-style boardroom show down judged by Ms Badger, who came second in the 2006 series with Lord Alan Sugar. The challenge will raise vital funds for Scottish Huntington’s Association (SHA). More than 900 families in Scotland are affected by Huntington’s disease, a hereditary neurological condition which causes a critical area of the brain to atrophy and eventually die, resulting in a gradual decline of muscle function. The Wolverhampton-born business woman now runs a successful consultancy helping SMEs and corporate clients launch and improve their operations as well as achieve sustainable growth. As Ruth now spends a good deal of time in the West Coast of Scotland she says she was delighted to give her support to such a worthy charity. “I believe Scots have a commercial sense that is unique with the 50:50 Challenge we want to celebrate Scotland’s wealth of entrepreneurial talent and raise much needed funds for the work that Scottish Huntington’s Association does supporting people with Huntington’s disease and their families,” she says. “This is a chance to pit yourselves against your competitors, other colleagues in your office, different schools or community groups in your area and at the same time support of a very worthwhile cause. I am very much looking forward to seeing the creativity that will be unleashed.” Teams of up to five people across three categories – business, community and schools - can sign up via www.5050challenge.org. Each team will be given £5 and tasked with using their imagination and business acumen to raise a minimum of £50 in 50 hours, which can be clocked up anytime between 00.01am on Monday 12 November and 11.59pm on Sunday 18 November. The winning school and community group will get a tailored workshop – designed by Ruth – to help them improve their business skills. The winners will be selected following a boardroom-style pitch in Glasgow in December and Ruth will decide who’s ‘hired’ and who’s ‘fired’.
