A shopping centre and a supermarket were evacuated following a gas leak in Inverness.

Police said officers were made aware of a gas leak from a train around 10:25am on Tuesday.

Network Rail confirmed the incident involved a freight train at Inverness Depot.

The Eastgate Shopping Centre and Morrisons were evacuated as a precaution, the force said.

A precautionary cordon was put in place, with the public asked to avoid the Millburn Rd and Academy St areas of the city.

The Millburn Road and Academy Street areas of Inverness then reopened around 1.20pm. Access to buildings was also restored.

ScotRail has confirmed that all lines to/from Inverness are now reopened.
