Tony Jameson: Football Manager Ruined My Life: The Stand 4
Until Aug 25 (excluding Aug 12)
THREE STARS
"I once bought a player while doing a poo."
Tony Jameson has forced himself to admit that playing Football Manager has turned him into more of an addict than an enthusiast.
That does tend to happen if you spend, he reckons, three hours a day playing the game over a couple of decades, despite it being what he calls a "glorified spreadsheet".
Add an extra star to this review if you're also a football obsessive, as you'll laugh from kick-off to final whistle at those too-specific references that make the show dip for the soccer-deficient among us.
Apart from that, though, Jameson's natural charisma has everyone cheering him from the terraces, particularly when he folds in other details from his life - his parents' divorce, his recent marriage - into the management simulation stories.
A coming-of-age tale for Generation Xbox.
