The Kerrang! Awards are probably the first time rock veterans Iron Maiden have found themselves on a list of winners alongside three female Japanese teenagers.

The Leyton-formed heavy metal band lost out on their two nominations for best British band and best album for The Book Of Souls but took home the more coveted title of Kerrang! Legends at the ceremony at east London’s Troxy venue.

It was a night for success for veteran bands with Thin Lizzy, Deftones and blink-182 also honoured, while Japanese trio BABYMETAL, the two youngest members of which are just 16-years-old, earned best live band.
