Nish Kumar talks about hia new stand up show Actions Speak Louder Than Words Unless You Shout The Words Real Loud

Tell us about your Fringe show

It’s called “Actions Speak Louder Than Words Unless You Shout Words Real Loud”. It’s about politics, history and gentrification. It will be a great laugh. PLEASE COME.

Best thing about the Fringe?

These interviews.

Worst thing about the Fringe?

See above.

How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?

This will be my eleventh consecutive year. I am nothing if not persistent.

Favourite Fringe venue?

The kitchen in my flat. It’s where Joel Dommett once tried to show off by doing a handstand and kept falling on his face. It’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

Best Fringe memory?

See above.

Best heckle?

Last year an American woman was filming me on her ipad to “show the folks back home”. I’ve got no idea what was going on.

Craziest on stage experience?

I got chased offstage by a Scottish heavy metal band. They were supposed to be on in our venue and were not happy that I was onstage, doling out the zingers.

What’s on your rider?

A glass of champagne and a cattle prod.

How do you wind down after a show?

Drink the champagne and poke myself with the prod.

What do you love about Scotland?

The fact that it seems like the only part of the UK that has not gone insane politically.

What do you like about Edinburgh?

Everything – I’ve been coming for so long I have developed Stokholm syndrome with the city.

What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?

Told an English person to f**k off.

What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?

Making fun of the Scottish.

Favourite joke?

Any of Milton Jones’ one liners.

Favourite Scottish food/drink?

HAGGIS. I LOVE HAGGIS. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.
