2017 has been another fascinating year for bands and artists in Scotland.

We had the comeback of the familiar with The Jesus and Mary Chain returning after a near 20 years absence, Mogwai actually enjoying singing and bringing the Hydro down with a jawdropping end-of-year show and Amy Macdonald with a first album in five years which revealed all the pop-sharp melodies that saw her shoot into the public conscience ten years ago with her debut album This Is The Life.

Calvin Harris's hold on the world of commercial electronic dance music continued with his fifth studio album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 which debuted at number two on both the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200.

Away from the mainstream, Sacred Paws' afro-pop tinged debut album Strike A Match won the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award for 2017.

Here is my playlist of the essential 100 tunes to come out of Scotland.
