Mandolin wind

THE FIRST major stage production of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, based on the best-selling novel by Louis de Bernières is set to be staged in Glasgow, 25 years after the book was first published.

Captain Corelli’s Mandolin is an epic love story set on the Greek island of Cephalonia.

It follows the lives of Dr Iannis, his beautiful, strong-willed daughter Pelagia and the Italian Captain Antonio Corelli, during the Italian and German occupation of the island in World War II.

The novel was adapted into a film starring Nicolas Cage and Penélope Cruz in 2001.

Directed by Olivier Award nominee Melly Still and adapted by BAFTA Award nominee Rona Munro, the play will run at Theatre Royal Glasgow from June 25 - 29, 2019.

Casting is yet to be announced.

Eagles set to land

THE EAGLES, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey - are set to appear in Glasgow in 2019 as part of a European tour.

After Glenn Frey’s death, it seemed likely that the Eagles were finished as band but after augmenting their line-up with Vince Gill and Frey’s son Deacon filling in, they’re attempting to return to world music stage.

As the best-selling American band of the 70s, and one of the top-selling acts of all time, the Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide,

Mozart and Brahms explored

MUSICIANS from the UK’s leading string orchestra join forces with clarinettist Matthew Hunt to explore the nuanced beauty of Mozart and Brahms’s clarinet quintets.

Scottish Ensemble are pleased to welcome leading clarinettist Matthew Hunt to join them on this Scottish tour.

As well as holding the esteemed position of solo clarinettist with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Matthew Hunt is also a member of the Sheffield-based chamber group Ensemble 360.

The tour will feature concerts in which will visit Dumfries (October 7), Perth (October 8), Edinburgh (October 9), Inverness (October 10), Glasgow (October 12) and Kirkcudbright (October 14).
