What's the story?

Kym Marsh is trading Coronation Street's cobbles for a world of crime with a new BBC show tackling "romance fraud". She will co-present the daytime TV series, For Love Or Money, with reporter Ashley John-Baptiste. It will air this autumn.

That's quite a change. But why are you telling me this?

Because Marsh deserves some credit for her ability to consistently reinvent herself and try new things.

How so?

Cast your mind back to ye olde days of reality TV and a show called Popstars. Marsh was part of the winning band Hear'Say in 2001.

Oh, yeah. What happened to them?

They enjoyed brief success with two UK number one singles and a number one album. Marsh left the band in 2002 to pursue a solo career.

Then what?

In 2006, she landed the part as Michelle Connor on Coronation Street. It was announced in February she was leaving the soap but may return at some point.

Wasn't Ashley John-Baptiste on Popstars?

He was an X Factor finalist with boy band The Risk.
