AN exciting event held in association with the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce is set to explore the opportunities and challenges SMEs face in 2016 and beyond.

How can entrepreneurs and business leaders be primed for whatever this year throws at them, particularly in the face of new emerging technologies?

That’s the question Scottish Power and the man behind Minecraft Console editions - leading Scottish digital entrepreneur Chris Van Der Kuyl - will be asking at an event on 4 February in association with the Chamber of Commerce.

Where: 200 St Vincent Street, Glasgow

Time:  6.00PM – 8.30PM (drinks reception, light refreshments, event & networking)

Chris is the Founder, Owner and Chairman of both the Tayforth group and 4J Studios - one of the UK’s most successful videogame developers, responsible for the multi-million selling and multi-award winning Minecraft Console editions. Minecraft is a global phenomenon and is currently on track to become the most successful videogame of all time.

And, in his role as founding Chairman of Entrepreneurial Scotland he not only continues to lead and inspire in his field but also to develop entrepreneurial behaviour in all Scotland’s people.

Neil Clitheroe, CEO of Retail & Generation at Scottish Power and Van Der Kuyl will seek to spark a discussion on the night by identifying the current challenges faced by big and small businesses in the face of new emerging technologies.

They will take a look at the common issues and how big brands like Scottish Power can adapt to changing customer behaviour in a digital world.

Neil said: "New technology affects every business - big and small.  But understanding this technology and what it can do to help and grow your business is a tough topic for many small businesses.

"ScottishPower is committed to doing all we can to support small businesses and we are therefore really pleased to be hosting Chris as our key speaker on the night. His huge success in the tech sector is a source of inspiration for everyone in business. I am sure we will learn a lot about what it takes to run a business in the new digital age."

To help bring this to life Cally Russell, CEO and founder of online shopping app Mallzee will also join the conversation. Cally famously turned down an offer of investment from a ‘dragon’ when he appeared on Dragon’s Den but has since gone on to raise over £3m in investment.

Recently he was named on the prestigious Forbes 30 under 30 list for Europe and selected by The Times as ‘One to watch in 2016’.
