GLENCAIRN Crystal has moved to ramp up expansion in the huge US market by signing a multi-million dollar distribution and manufacturing deal with a leading glassware producer in the country.
The East Kilbride-based firm, which produces engraved decanters for the drinks industry, has appointed Boelter to decorate and distribute products in America. It reckons the agreement could provide a $2.5m (£1.8m) boost to sales over the next three years.
Boelter will distribute the Glancairn glass which the Scottish firm designed for drinking whisky from. It will also decorate products such as decanters that Glencairn has designed for US firms.
After achieving strong growth in the Scotch whisky market, Glencairn has benefited from increased interest among US producers in so-called premiumisation. This can involve selling drinks such as Jack Daniels and Rip Van Winkle bourbons in engraved bottles intended to mark them out as special.
Director Scott Davidson said: “ We are delighted to form a partnership with Boelter, Like Glencairn, they are a second generation business and are prominent in the craft beer and spirits industry which is booming in the USA.”
The partnership with the firm could help Glencairn grow US sales and achieve savings on production and transportation costs.
Earlier this month Mr Davidson said Glencairn was on course to achieve another year of strong growth with the whisky firms it supplies achieving continued success overseas despite widely reported problems in China.
Founded by Scott’s father, Raymond, Glencairn increased sales by 6.2 per cent in the first nine months of the latest financial year. It had £6.7m turnover in the year to 30 April.
