A CRAFT brewery established in Aberdeen by two former oil workers has received a £120,000 funding package to expand production in response to increasing domestic and international demand.
The package, which was secured with Barclays, will help Fierce Beer purchase new bottling and fermenting equipment, increasing production capacity from 300 to 2,000 units per hour. The cash will also provide working capital support.
Fierce Beer was founded in 2015 by Dave Grant and David McHardy, who met on a brewing course and subsequently took the decision to leave the oil industry and invest their savings in commercialising their home brewing exports.
Fierce Beer has since won listings with Lidl and Aldi, and secured distribution deals to markets including Holland, Sweden, Hong Kong and Singapore.
The business is one of a number to have benefitted from Barclays’ £500m Scottish SME fund since it was launched in June 2016 to provide access to funding for companies with turnover up to £25m.
Mr Grant commented: “With more and more interest from international buyers, it was vital that we had the infrastructure in place to capitalise on new sales opportunities and meet growing demand.
Meanwhile, Stewart Brewing has revealed several limited-edition collaboration beers that will be available at the Edinburgh Beer Festival next month, including a strawberry and black pepper ice cream style ale with Over Langshaw Farmhouse Ice Cream and a kiwi hopped double IPA in partnership with local brewer Cross Borders.
