A 72-studio aparthotel in central Edinburgh is on track to open early next month, following an investment of “tens of millions of pounds”.

Eden Locke, on George Street in Edinburgh, is the second “design-led lifestyle aparthotel” to be opened in the UK by Locke Hotels. Last year, Locke opened an aparthotel, named Leman Locke, in Aldgate in London.

Locke has undertaken an extensive refurbishment of the historic George Street property.

A spokeswoman for Locke said it was “owner-occupier” of the property on George Street.

Locke did not put an exact figure on the investment, but the spokeswoman said: “It is in the tens of millions [of pounds].”

The spokeswoman for Locke, which is part of SACO The Serviced Apartment Company, said: “Edinburgh is obviously naturally the next progression in terms of a tourist hotspot.”

She declined to put a figure on the workforce at the new Edinburgh hotel, noting recruitment was not yet complete, but indicated there would be “quite a lot” of jobs, pointing out that the development also included a coffee shop and bar, Hyde & Son.

Locke noted the interiors at its new Edinburgh aparthotel were “the vision of New York architects Grzywinski+Pons”.

Eric Jafari, of Locke, said: “We’re honoured for Edinburgh to be the home of our second Locke. This city is a natural destination for our concept: historic, progressive, creative, understated and dynamic, much like we aspire Eden Locke to be.”

He added: “We aim for Locke to be an effective representation of Edinburgh – a destination that creatively champions the new and old.”
