The world’s largest tidal power generation scheme is now fully operational, helping to progress the viability of tidal stream power as a clean and predictable energy source.

Atlantis Resources’ Meygen project is in the Pentland Firth and has a six megawatt capacity. Phase 1A of the project has entered its 25 year operations phase following a period of array operation since the turbines were reinstalled in 2017.

Tim Cornelius, Atlantis chief executive, said: “Seeing the MeyGen project move into the operations phase is another major milestone on the path to commercialising tidal stream energy.”
