Wallets Marts sold 5 store heifers in Castle Douglas on Monday to a top of 263.3p per kg and an average of 239.1p, while 43 store bullocks peaked at 269.4p and levelled at 232.4p.

The firm went on to sell 519 prime lambs at the same venue yesterday to a top of £125 per head and 272.3p per kg to average £97.38 and 242.4p (-14.3p on the week).

Cast sheep continued to sell well with 76 heavy ewes selling to £114 for Suffolks and averaging £74.44, while 32 light/export-type ewes peaked at £69 for Blackfaces and levelled at £59.27.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 8 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 261p and an average of 232.7p, while a couple of prime bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 236.1p.

In the rough ring 65 beef cows sold to 191.3p and averaged 144.4p, while 108 dairy cows peaked at 143.6p and levelled at 115.1p.
