C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 73 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 250.6p per kg and an average of 206.2p (-6.6p on the fortnight), while 28 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 236.7p and levelled at 217.2p (-11.3p). Ten store, B&W bullocks sold to 203.9p and averaged 137.6p (-13.6p), while nine store bulls peaked at 240p and levelled at 198.9p (-15.4p).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 645 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £110 per head and 243p per kg to average 218.9p (-21.7p on the week).
Cast sheep were also harder to cash with 188 heavy ewes selling to £134.50 for Texels and averaging £87.20, while 70 light/export-type ewes peaked at £69.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £59.80.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 41 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 248p and an average of 229p (+1p), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 252p and levelled at 234p (no change).
In the rough ring 40 beef cows sold to 177p and averaged 154p (+9p).
There were also 906 prime lambs that sold to £134 and 257p to average 226.1p (-30p).
The 249 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £125 for Suffolk crosses and average £106, while light ewes peaked at £89 for Cheviots and levelled at £65.
The firm also sold six prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 239.5p and an average of 208.8p (+5.1p), while 19 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 223.5p and levelled at 210.6p (+3.8p). Eight prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 163.5p and averaged 153.5p (-6.7p). Fifty-nine prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 224.5p and averaged 183.6p (-3.3p), while 38 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 185.5p and levelled at 157.8p (+5.6p).
In the rough ring 67 beef cows sold to 200.5p and averaged 144.1p (-1.6p), while 188 dairy cows peaked at 163.5p and levelled at 118.9p (0.3p).
There were also 950 prime lambs that sold to £128.80 and 304.5p to average 233.5p (-19.6p).
A small show of 69 heavy cast ewes sell to £114 for Dutch Texels and average £84.87, while 17 light ewes peaked at £94.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £44.50.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 25 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 260p and an average of 247.1p (-0.8p), while five prime beef-bred bullocks peaked at 242p and levelled at 226.2p (-3.1p). Five prime B&W bullocks sold to 154.5p and averaged 147.2p (+2.6p).
The firm also sold 358 prime lambs to a top of £126 and 293p to average 226.5p (-17.1p).
The 170 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £130 for Beltex and averaged £83.43, while 84 light ewes peaked at £77.50 for a Cheviots and levelled at £66.68.
