CELTIC Football Club, Magners Irish Cider and the Tennent’s Training Academy have teamed up again to run an employment scheme which has placed nearly 40 people into work in the hospitality sector since it first launched three years ago.

The Magners Employability Programme is returning for a fourth year with a focus this time on helping candidates develop bar skills.

Twelve places are up for grabs on the 10-week programme, which is aimed at individuals seeking to build careers in the hospitality industry.

The application process for this year’s intake opens on Monday, with the programme scheduled to run from September 12 to November 9. Subjects on the syllabus include customer and drinks service, cocktail and barista skills and whisky masterclass, allowing candidates to gain three qualifications which will boost their employment chances.

The course will be delivered at the Tennent’s Training Academy at Glasgow’s Wellpark Brewery.

The programme began in 2015 and has helped 37 people secure work in hospitality or move into further education.

An open day is being held at Celtic Park on Monday.

Magners is supporting this year’s programme with a £20,000 donation.

George Kyle, head of sponsorship at Magners, said: “The Magners Employability Programme has helped close to 40 people learn new skills and get into work since we began the initiative with Celtic FC Foundation and The Tennent’s Training Academy, four years ago. The skills and confidence gained throughout these sessions are valuable assets to everyone involved.”
