C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their annual Rood Fair sale of store cattle in Dumfries on Monday when 257 heifers sold to 260.6p per kg and averaged 202p (+10p on the fortnight), while 274 beef-bred bullocks peaked at 241p and levelled at 214.3p (+10p). Forty-six dairy-bred bullocks sold to 160.6p and averaged 143.4p (+7.2p), while 20 young bulls peaked at 242.9p and levelled at 190p (+12p).

Wallets Marts had 1031 Scotch Mule ewe lambs forward at their second sale in Castle Douglas on Monday when the top price of £98 apiece was paid for a pen from Mains of Larg Farmers and the overall average levelled at £79.16 (-£1.29 on the year).

The firm went on to sell 963 prime lambs at the same venue yesterday to a top of £88 per head and 195.6p per kg to average £73.49 and 169.6p (-4.2p on the year).

There was also a larger show of cast sheep forward that included many plain, grazing types. All classes were cheaper on the week with 446 heavy ewes selling to £93 for Texels and averaging £50.02, while 271 light/export-type ewes peaked at £57 for Blackfaces and levelled at £31.24.
