SCOTLAND’S finest digital talent, agencies and campaigns were honoured at a prestigious ceremony in Glasgow last night.

The 10th Scottish Digital Business Awards, held by The Herald in association with DigitalBoost, took place before more than 250 guests at the Radisson Blu Hotel, hosted by Garry Spence.

And it saw Screenmedia lift the top prize for the second year in a row as the Glasgow-based firm lifted the title of Digital Agency of the Year. It was one of three awards the agency won on the night, alongside its success in the Best Mobile Application and Consumer Engagement categories.

David Mains, chairman of the judging panel and digital director of award sponsor ENGAGE Recruitment, declared: “What a superb night!

“The standard of entries was incredibly high, so I am delighted for all of the finalists – they were already winners in my eyes, just to have been shortlisted – I sincerely hope I see them all again next year, continuing to demonstrate the growth and innovation that made them finalists.

“For the overall winners, and those commended, they should be incredibly proud to be best of the best in their category.

“We are delighted to support The Herald Digital Business Awards and in particular the Best Digital Agency category and very much look forward to next year and beyond!”

The winners and commended finalists in 11 categories, spanning projects across the private and public sectors, were unveiled at the awards, which were also supported by Business Gateway and the SQA.

The Education & Training Award, sponsored by SQA, went to Giglets Education in honour of its literacy resource, which is now used by thousands of teachers in more than 60 countries.

Alistair Wylie, head of technology, engineering and construction at SQA said: “It has been inspiring to hear about the wide range of innovative digital projects taking place in Scottish businesses, which are allowing them to better meet customer needs.

“SQA is proud to sponsor the Education and Training Award, which has demonstrated the transformative impact which technologies can have on learning experiences.

“On behalf of SQA I’d like to congratulate all the finalists and in particular the category winner, Giglets Education, on their achievements.”

The E-commerce Award, sponsored by Business Gateway, was presented to MadeBrave for its work for Geekgear, which yielded impressive results.

MadeBrave, founded by Glasgow-based entrepreneur Andrew Dobbie, also won the Best Use of Social Media Award.

Hugh Lightbody, chief officer at the Business Gateway National Unit, said: “The quality of entrants to The Herald Digital Business Awards continues to impress and this year’s finalists and winners were outstanding.

“Digital is now part and parcel of how businesses operate and reach new markets and it also opens up opportunities for developers and technology companies to create new platforms, product and services.

“We have seen this positive impact first hand through the DigitalBoost programme which continues to go from strength to strength in offering free digital training and support to SMEs.

“The awards night itself was a great opportunity for Scotland to showcase some of the best digital projects, organisations and individuals around at the moment. Congratulations to all the winners.”

This year the Digital Professional of the Year Award was presented to Andrew Conway of Blue2 Digital.

The other big winners on the night were Freetobook, which took home the Business to Business Award, and Blackwood Homes and Care, winner of the Charity and Social Enterprise Award.

We are Snook triumphed in the Public Sector Award, while Zulaikha Khokhar won the Student Award.
