MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 599 autumn-born heifer suckled calves in Newton Stewart on Saturday to average £797.58 per head or 205.8p per kg (-2.8p on the year) and 760 autumn-born bullock calves to level at £906.04 or 216.6p (-0.2p). Three-hundred-and-sixty spring-born heifer calves averaged £692.91 or 258.8p (+0.8p) and 561 spring-born bullock calves levelled at £669.23 or 235.8p (+4.7p).
The firm went on to sell 1,637 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £86 per head and 186.1p per kg to average 160.9p (-3.7p on the week).
All types of cast sheep were harder to cash on the week with 261 heavy ewes selling to £125 for a Charollais and averaging £67.90, while 420 light/export-type ewes peaked at £47.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £30.20.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 29 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 250p and an average of 217p (-7p), while 30 prime bullocks peaked at 238p and levelled at 206.6p (-7.4p).
In the rough ring 83 beef cows sold to 163p and averaged 121p (-6p).
There were also 2,033 prime lambs that sold to £95 and 200p to average 160p (-10p).
The 554 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes average £85 and light ewes level at £37.
The firm also sold 10 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 237.5p and an average of 203.6p (+17.9p), while 28 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 232.5p and levelled at 209.3p (+14.9p). Fifty prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 225.5p and averaged 187.3p (+0.5p), while 45 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 177.5p and levelled at 152.8p (+4.5p).
In the rough ring 139 beef cows sold to 190.5p and averaged 120.7p (-7.1p), while 216 dairy cows peaked at 151.5p and levelled at 85.8p (-1.3p). Thirteen bulls sold to 191.5p and averaged 113.3p (-1p).
There were also 2,004 prime lambs that sold to £97.80 and 235.7p to average 166.3p (-1.7p).
A modest show of 154 heavy cast ewes sold to £105.50 for Suffolks and averaged £54.42, while 63 light ewes peaked at £42.50 for Herdwicks and levelled at £24.46.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 16 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 256p and an average of 244p (+3p), while five prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 253p and levelled at 243p (+3p). Six prime, B&W bullocks sold to 140p and averaged 132p (-4p).
In the rough ring 43 beef cows averaged 112p (+2p) and 42 dairy cows levelled at 87p (+2p).
There were also 2,429 prime lambs that sold to £100 and 216p to average 167p (+3p).
The 345 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £138 for a Texel and averaged £70.90, while 236 light ewes peaked at £56 for a Cheviot and levelled at £34.77.
