C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their annual show and sale of suckled calves and store cattle in Dumfries on Monday when centre records were smashed by the champion, a home-bred, March-born Limousin cross heifer from Gary Bell, Haas Side that sold for £4,100. The 97 heifer calves averaged £715.60 or 230.6p per kg (+7.3p on the year), while 137 bullock calves levelled at £795.14 or 242.1p (+5.3p).

The firm also sold 144 store heifers to a top of 231.3p and an average of 200.8p (+13.1p on the fortnight), while 137 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 234.4p and levelled at 205p (+6.6p). Twenty store, B&W bullocks sold to 140.7p and averaged 126.4p (-5.9p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold nine prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1,421.90 per head and 241p per kg to average £1,187.91 or 224.4p, while six prime bullocks peaked at £1,215 and 225p to level at £869.57 or 176.6p.

In the rough ring 105 beef cows sold to 144.4p and averaged 106.4p, while 90 dairy cattle peaked at 107.5p and levelled at 82.7p. Four bulls sold to 119.7p and averaged 86.7p, while 13 clean OTM cattle peaked at 140.2p and levelled at 119.8p.
