THE names of the finalists in Entrepreneurial Scotland’s latest annual awards have been revealed.

Derek Pierce of the J&D Pierce Contracts steelwork business, Chris Stewart of the eponymous property group and Simon Hannah, who leads the JW Filshill wholesale group, are vying for the entrepreneur of the year award.

The 2018 Summit Entrepreneurship Awards will also salute the achievements of people who have successfully scaled up firms and rising stars of the entrepreneurial community.

They include four new categories, with recognition set to go to the country’s intrapreneur, social entrepreneur, young entrepreneur and academic entrepreneur of the year.

Entrepreneurial Scotland chief executive Sandy Kennedy said the standard of the people nominated for awards in each category was truly impressive.

Past award winners such as Gareth Williams of the Skyscanner flight search firm and tyres entrepreneur Mike Welch will sit on the judging panel. Other panellists will include The Herald’s business editor, Ian McConnell

The winners will be announced at The Summit Celebration Dinner which will be held at SWG3 in Glasgow on November 22. The awards are staged by Entrepreneurial Scotland and STV.
