TWO of Scotland’s most prominent business leaders have tasted success at a major awards ceremony.

Lord Willie Haughey, co-founder and chairman of Glasgow-based City Holdings Group, and Forth Ports’ chief executive Charles Hammond were unveiled as category winners at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 awards last night.

Lord Haughey, who set up City with wife Susan in 1985, won the sustained excellence category, which came shortly after the philanthropist was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year for Scotland in June. He had also won the sustained excellence award in the Scotland final.

Mike Timmins, partner and EY Entrepreneur Of The Year leader in Scotland, said: “With a relentless focus on improvement, Lord Willie Haughey has created an incredible

business of international renown. His unfaltering commitment to others is making a positive impact to the lives of many people.”

Mr Hammond, who is credited with transforming the fortunes of Forth Ports in 17 years at the helm, was joint winner in the transformational leader category. Mr Timmins said: “Charles is an impressive entrepreneur whose dynamic and approachable leadership style has resulted in remarkable business growth.”

The entrepreneur of the year title was awarded to the joint chief executives of independent forecourt operator EG Group, brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa.
