Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold nine prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1480.90 per head or 251p per kg to average £1266.29 or 213.2p, while a prime bull fetched £813.70 or 158p.

In the rough ring 108 beef cows sold to £1190 and 158p to average 103.6p, while 112 dairy cows peaked at £1030 or 137.3p. Eleven bulls sold to £1350 or 153.4p to average, while 9 clean OTM cattle peaked at £1200 or 160.3p to average 139.7p.

The firm also had 18 dairy cattle that included 4 pedigree Holsteins Friesians when a bull sold for 2000gns and a heifer peaked at £1950gns. Commercial heifers sold to £1880 for a Holstein Friesian, with the whole sale averaging £1615. In-calf heifers sold to £1120 for Ayrshires and averaged £830.

Wallets Marts sold 1375 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £80.50 per head and 193p per kg to average £70.25 or 162.9p (-4p on the week).

Cast sheep were once again a sticky trade with 122 heavy ewes selling to £97 for Texels and averaging £54.28, while 238 light/export type ewes peaked at £47.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £31.
