Wallets Marts had a small show of store cattle in Castle Douglas yesterday when 47 heifers sold to £1126 per head and 193.8p per kg to average £882.37 or 181p, while 8 bullocks peaked at £950 and 214p to level at £711 or 178p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1386 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £90 per head and 201.2p per kg to average 165.1p (-3.2p on the week).
A smaller show of 523 cast sheep were harder to cash on the week with 241 heavy ewes selling to £149.50 for pure Texels and averaging £76.85, while 252 light/export-type ewes peaked at £68 for Cheviots and levelled at £32.65.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 42 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 250p and an average of 216p (-10p), while 28 prime bullocks peaked at 239p and levelled at 211p (no change).
In the rough ring 41 beef cows sold to 137p and averaged 107p (-4p).
There were also 1274 prime lambs that sold to £95 and 218.5p to average 170p (+5p).
The 356 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £115 for Suffolks and average £77, while light ewes peaked at £71 for Cheviots and levelled at £37.
The firm also sold 12 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 238.5p and an average of 176.8p (-30.7p), while 14 prime bullocks peaked at 229.5p and levelled at 210.8p (+15p). Fifty-eight prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 229.5p and averaged 197.1p (+4.7p), while 13 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 186.5p and levelled at 165.2p (+17p).
In the rough ring 161 beef cows sold to 206.5p and averaged 121.4p (+5.8p), while 159 dairy cows peaked at 157.5p and levelled at 87.3p (-0.2p). Ten bulls sold to 133.5p and averaged 91.3p (-17.9p).
There were also 1404 prime lambs that sold to £104.80 and 262p to average 173.9p (+8.1p).
A modest show of cast sheep saw 175 heavy ewes sell to £127 for Texels and average £64.49, while 67 light ewes peaked at £69.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £27.13.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 29 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 265p and an average of 242p (+3p), while 5 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 236p and levelled at 234p (+4p). Nineteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 150p and averaged 136p (+6p).
In the rough ring42 beef cows averaged 106p (no change) and 34 dairy cows levelled at 82p (-3p).
The firm also sold 1494 prime lambs to a top of £95 and 230p to average 170p (+8p).
The 343 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £144 for Texels and averaged £71.89, while 122 light ewes peaked at £44 for Blackfaces.
