C&D Auction Marts sold 55 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 228p per kg and an average of 185p, while 90 store bullocks peaked at 241.5p and levelled at 193.3p. Five store bulls sold to 218.2p and averaged 217.4p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1216 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £105 per head and 231.1p per kg to average 198.8p.

There were also 507 cast sheep forward that met a sharper trade on the week with 163 heavy ewes selling to £150 for a Texel and averaging £76.41, while 300 light/export-type ewes peaked at £49.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £39.69.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 52 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 248p and an average 211p, while 23 prime bullocks peaked at 239p and levelled at 206p. A couple of prime bulls sold to 166p and averaged 162p.

In the rough ring 25 beef cows sold to 163p and averaged 109p.

There were also 2100 prime hoggs forward that sold to £113 and 240p to average 192.1p.

A good show of 756 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £151 for Charollais and average £83, while light ewes peaked at £77 for Cheviots and levelled at £47.

The firm also sold 24 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 241.5p and an average of 201.7p, while 31 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 231.5p and levelled at 203.3p. Three prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 154.5p and averaged 151.5p.

Forty-six prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 232.5p and averaged 198.6p, while 39 prime dairy-bred bulls peaked at 179.5p and averaged 150p.

In the rough ring 182 beef cows sold to 188.5p and averaged 119.7p, while 142 dairy cows peaked at 145.5p and levelled at 81.4p.

There were also 2358 prime hoggs forward that sold to £107.80 and 257.1p to average 191.3p.

The 163 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £143 for Texels and averaged £71.71, while 19 light ewes peaked at £60.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £36.73.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 22 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 252p and an average of 239p, while 6 prime bullocks peaked at 228p and levelled at 220p. A couple of prime bulls averaged 180p.

In the rough ring 48 beef cows averaged 236p and 40 dairy cows levelled at 87p.

The firm also sold 2148 prime hoggs to a top of £107 and 260p to average 197p.

A large show of cast sheep saw 278 heavy ewes sell to £183 for a Texel and average £84.78, while 518 light ewes peaked at £64 for Blackfaces and levelled at £43.45.
