ACCOUNTANCY firm PricewaterhouseCoopers plans to take on 120 staff in Scotland over the next six months, mainly in digital technology roles, in what it describes as its “largest-ever” recruitment drive north of the Border.

PwC, which has around 900 staff across offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, said it was launching the recruitment drive to ensure it was “able to fully harness technologies being developed in-house, from artificial intelligence to data analytics, virtual reality and drones”.

It added that the majority of the positions would be digital technology roles, including data architects, enterprise architects, business analysts and project managers.

Ian McConnell, lead partner in PwC’s operational delivery and change management business, Operate, said: “We’re delighted to bring these high-calibre roles to our Scottish operations as part of our continued expansion.”

Lindsay Gardiner, who chairs PwC in Scotland, said: “We are starting 2019 with the biggest recruitment drive we have ever undertaken in Scotland, a drive which underlines our ambitions to grow the business in step with the digital transformation which is under way across corporate Scotland.”

He observed that businesses are going through fundamental changes in the way they operate “in a challenging economic and political environment”.

Mr Gardiner added: “By continuing to invest in our people and expanding our technology capability, we are well-positioned to help deliver this change.”

PwC noted that Operate had been created in 2017 to support increasing demand from multinational organisations dealing with political, economic and regulatory change.
