PLANS have been submitted for a £16 million “Aviator Hotel” at Ingliston next to Edinburgh Airport.

The application for planning permission in principle includes construction of a hotel, restaurant and bar, conference facilities, parking, landscape works and associated development.

A statement prepared on behalf of Gogarbank-registered Flowpearl said the 200-bed hotel plans fits in the wider Royal Highland Centre masterplan and the strategic importance of the west Edinburgh business cluster which includes the airport, the RHC and International Business Gateway.

It said: “Given the significant market interest and overwhelming demand for hotel bedrooms generated by the City of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Airport, the International Business Gateway and the RHC, it is fully anticipated that, following detailed consent, construction would commence onsite in 2020.”

The statement said the building of the hotel would have “a positive impact on the construction sector economy”.

It stated: “The hotel will generate 104 full time jobs onsite ... and contribute £2m in GVA terms to the city economy on an annual basis.

“As a result of the development there will be offsite impacts associated with the expenditure of visitors, which will help support a further 75 net jobs at the local level with a resultant additional GVA impact of £1.9m per annum.”

The Herald:

Flowpearl has held initial consultations with the surrounding community.

A consultation meeting was held in November and the event was attended by five people including representatives of Ratho and District Community Council.

“Representatives from the design team and Flowpearl Ltd attended the event to explain the proposals, answer questions and collect/listen to comments made.

“No comments were made during the exhibition and no comment forms or email comments were received”, according to the application.

The statement continued: “Flowpearl Ltd was established in 2000 to investigate the development potential of a number of land holdings across Scotland.

“Flowpearl is now wholly focussed on the delivery of the Aviator Hotel at Ingliston Road, pursuant to significant market interest in the site based on the overwhelming demand for new hotel bedrooms in Edinburgh. “

The application is “awaiting assessment”.

A spokeswoman for the Ratho and District Community Council, who attended a public meeting on the plan, said: “The developer claims that it has met all the local planning requirements.”
