Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 37 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 258p and an average of 214p (-3p), while 17 prime bullocks peaked at 224p and levelled at 207p (-12p).

In the rough ring 74 cast cows sold to a top price of £1391 and 173p per kg and averaged 128p (+6p).

There were also 1212 prime hoggs that sold to £108 and 270p to average 182 p (-10p).

The 504 cast ewes forward saw heavy ewes sell to £140 for Beltex and average £70, while light ewes sold to £83 for Cheviots and averaged £42.

The firm also sold 21 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 230.5p and an average of 195.5p (-0.9p), while 21 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 231.5p and levelled at 208p (+14.5). Four prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 154.5p and averaged 151.5p. Thirty three prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 229.5p and averaged 187.3p (+6.2 p), while 26 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 178.5p and levelled at 155.6p (+10.5p).

There were also 1737 prime hoggs that sold to £112.80 and 282.1p to average 176.4p (-13.7). Cast sheep were easier on the week with 105 heavy ewes selling to £130 for Beltex and averaging £64.62, while 72 light ewes peaked at £84.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £47.47.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1659 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £103 per head and 210.5p per kg, to average 183.6p (-2.5p on the week).

There was also a smaller show of cast sheep when 166 heavy ewes sold to £118 for Texels and averaging £69.49, while 385 light/export-type ewes peaked at £51.50 for Blackface and levelled at £44.50.

C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 160 mainly dairy cross store cattle in Dumfries yesterday. Top price for heifers was £1160 for a British Blue, while store bullocks peaked at £ 1185 for a Simental.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 24 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 252p and an average of 239p (+1p on the week), while 4 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 227p and levelled at 217p Twenty nine B&W bullocks sold to 154p and averaged 144p, while 5 prime bulls levelled at 180p.

In the rough ring 38 beef cows averaged 120p (+4p on the week) and 48 dairy cows levelled at 94p (+2p).

A good show of 2685 prime hoggs sold to £ 112 and 261p to average 188p.

Another large show of cast sheep saw 422 heavy ewes sell to £145 and averaged £78.77, while 716 export ewes peaked at £63 for a Cheviot and levelled at £46.15. 536 Blackface ewes sold to a top price of £72.
