Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 52 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 248p and an average of 213p (-1p), while 22 prime bullocks peaked at 233p and levelled at 204.5p (+1p).

In the rough ring 39 cast cows sold to £1170 and 161p to average 124.5p (+5p).

There were also 1186 prime hoggs that sold to £116 and 263p/kg to average 194p (+11p).

The 184 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £125 for Texels and average £83, while light ewes peaked at £75 for Cheviots and levelled at £53.

The firm also sold 18 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 234.5p and an average of 187p (-15.5p), while 20 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 229.5p and levelled at 196p (-5p). Thirty four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 225.5p and averaged 184.5p (-12p), while 31 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 182.5p and levelled at 161.5p (-8p).

In the rough ring 118 beef cows sold to 180.5p and averaged 130p (-8p), while 132 cast dairy cows peaked at 151p and averaged 104p (+5p).

There were also 1288 prime hoggs forward at Carlisle that sold to £118.80 and 297p/kg to average 181p (+2p).

The 136 heavy cast ewes forward sold up to £117.50 for Dutch Texels and averaged £74.02, while 61 light ewes peaked at £55.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £42.43

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1270 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £100 per head and 225p/kg, to average 180p (+5p on the week). The 301 blackface lambs forward in the sale peaked at £90 and 210p to average 182p.

Cast sheep were dearer on the week when 230 heavy ewes sold to £143 for a pen of four Texel ewes and averaging £76.63, while 342 light/export-type ewes peaked at £59 for Blackfaces and levelled at £45.78.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 30 beef-bred prime cattle in Lanark yesterday to a top of £1536 and 250p for a heifer and an average of 210p, while 10, dairy-bred prime cattle levelled at 165p. Two prime bulls averaged 160p/kg.

In the rough ring 31 beef cows sold to £1145 and 154p/kg to average 124p/kg, while 30 dairy cows sold up to £1005 and 124p/kg to level at 94p/kg.

A large show of 2940 prime hoggs sold up to £116 on two occasions for Beltex and Texel lambs. Top price per kilo was 275p/kg for Beltex. The overall average was 185p/kg (+4p on the week)

There was a smaller show of 630 cast sheep which saw all classes much dearer on the week. Heavy ewes sold to £163 for Texel ewes, while light ewes peaked at £58 for Blackface.
